| Trouble Ahead |
| 11.18.06 (2:40 pm) [edit] |
|
Iran has threatened to stop the flow of oil from the Persian Gulf. We will soon face a crisis.
I predict that the price at the pump will zoom, followed by galloping inflation, unemployment, blackouts, and finally a complete collapse in social services.

| Remember Rhodesia |
| 11.14.06 (9:51 am) [edit] |
|
Right now in the nation of "Zimbabwe" formerly Rhodesia, 1 1/2 million people are staring at starvation in the face. Strongman Robert Mugabe who just a year ago was calling white people devils is demanding that Europe send food.
But wait a minute, Rhodesia used to be the breadbasket of africa. Robert Mugabe took farms away from white people and gave them to blacks. He has been in power since 1980 and the situation gets worse and worse.
TAKEN FROM CNN
http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD...
The country is suffering its worst economic crisis since independence in 1980, with more than 1,000 percent inflation, the highest in the world, and acute shortages of hard currency and gasoline. The crisis has been largely blamed on the chaotic and often violent seizures of thousands of white-owned commercial farms since 2000 in Zimbabwe, a former regional breadbasket.

| Other Timelines, other rules |
| 11.05.06 (9:01 am) [edit] |
Many of us are injured by a folly called "presentism." That is we imagine that people in alternate timelines share the same notions and beliefs as to what is right and wrong. For example, on many timelines killing animals is seen as wrong and there is a lot of trouble for people who accidentally step on a bug. Much like here you get in trouble if you accidentally leave your dog in a hot car and he dies.
And yet, in our timeline our ocean is treated as an open sewer, a watery landfill or oceanfill.
We need to see that other timelines have other rules. Most have low crime and low pollution precisely because their belief structure is different than ours. The most important thing is not money and power, but try be a good person.
Our society does not value people who do good, but instead the rich, I can say many of which attained their wealth through less than legit means.
Also, most timelines, are not as racist and sexist as this one. Our timeline is rich against poor, black against white, old against young. Most timelines have a more open society. Thus I conclude that the problems we have are endemic and hard to fix.
